What is this 100 Bands, 100 Days project?
A Summer commitment to experience live music during the Summer months. Typically, from late-May (Memorial Day) through early-September (Labor Day). The goal is to experience over 100 bands within the 100 days. Some days will have many bands, some days will have no bands. Most of the music will be in and around Madison, Wisconsin but there are plans to go to Milwaukee, Eau Claire and Chicago. Follow progress from the Instagram feed on the homepage.
Where did this idea come from?
I first heard of this idea in 2015 when I discovered the 100 Bands in 100 Days website and the short documentary film that resulted from it. In 2016, I did a personal music project called 13 Weeks of Live Music that is documented on Tumblr. We completed our first 100 bands, 100 days effort in Summer of 2017. We had so much fun we decided to turn it into an annual event.
Why are you doing this?
We enjoy live music and we live in a city that has a great live music scene, but we had spent little time experiencing it. Doing a project like this opens us up to new understanding and new possibilities. We learn more about the city we live in, we discover music venues, we meet new people, and, most of all, we experience the single, unique, ephemeral point in time when performers share their talents with us.
Are there rules?
There are a few simple rules.
Rule 1: 100 Bands over 100 Days
Rule 2: No repeat bands
Rule 3: A minimum of a 30 minute set
